On Monday, June 11, the a environmental sculpture "Swirling the world" was installed in Madona. The sculpture was made following the initiative of the charity foundation "Cilvēkiem" in cooperation with the city of Madona. It is available for viewing from Friday.
The sculpture was chosen as part of a competition organized by the charity organization "Cilvēkiem". The Foundation "Cilvēkiem" presents a modern and sustainable work of art to the city of Madonna, which celebrates its 96th birthday this year.
"Swirling the world" tells about the vitality of the Madona region, its will to live with respect and love for the traditions of the region. The sculpture depicts a swirling dancer in a folk dress traditional to Madona region. Its visual image is inspired by the dance movements of three dancers from Madona's dance group. Photographs of all three dancers were used as the basis for the creation of the model. The movement of the skirt, the flying braid and the curvature of the body create a dynamic mood, which at the same time reminds us of the necessity of a center - the person as the source of action. The sculpture is 3.8 meters high and made of bronze.
Artist Aigars Bikše says about the created work of art: "Public art in our urban environment is a way for society to communicate its values, reflecting the kind of people we want to be and the kind of society we want and long to live in. "Spinning the World" is both a reminder of belonging and a message for the future generations.”
Agnese Silupa, the landscape architect of the municipality of Madona region, and Jānis Liepiņš, the architect of the architectural office "B&L projekti" participated in the creation of the project.
