Solo show "Matters Beyond Words" on display at St. Anne’s Lutheran Church of Babite

From 7 May to 2 August this year, Aigars Bikše's solo exhibition "Matters Beyond Words" will be on display at the St. Anne's Lutheran Church in Babīte region, Latvia. The exhibition will feature works created from 2022 to the present, forming a thematically multi-layered series at the intersection of contemporary art and sacred space, looking at the processes of meaning-making, the language of symbols and what remains beyond the namable.

Solo exhibition will celebrate Aigars Bikše's 35 years of work in the Latvian contemporary art scene and internationally, placing artist's philosophical reflections on how we give meaning to things and symbols, role of faith and belief in this process, at the centre of the exhibition.

There is enormous power in a symbol and at the same time its form can express nothing. Viewer plays the role of the initiator of meanings in this respect. The elements placed in the church space - sacred references, wild roughness, materiality games and abstractions - encourage the viewers to form a dialogue with the space.

The exhibition is designed by Artūrs Arnis, curated by Alise Hofmane, the visual narrative is accompanied by a musical score composed by Jānis Lūsēns jr., and the graphic design is by Kristina Rezviha. The message of the exhibition is furthered with descriptions of the artworks by Andrejs Irbe, pastor of the Piņķi parish.

Opening hours: Thursday - Sunday 10.00-20.00.

Last Saturday of each month - public event at the exhibition.

The exhibition is supported by State Culture Capital Foundation and St. John’s parish of Piņķi.
